Do well in 'developing UK tourist destinations'

AC 3.1

The role of councils

Local authorities such as county councils and city councils are mainly responsible for items such as education, refuge collection, maintaining local roads, providing social services and so on. Councils also help to promote tourism to popular destinations within the areas for which they are responsible.

Some councils see this as an important role, and some see it as being less important. Councils may work with partner organisations to promote tourism and they usually operate Tourism Information Centres. They may also have set up Destination Management Organisations, but this is not always the case.
