Be better at 'the business of tourism'

AC 1.1 - Describe forms of ownership for tourism organisations

Size and scale

Tourism businesses can be set up in a variety of forms. This often depends on the size and scale of the business.

Scale simply means the area over which the business operates. Today the scale can be confusing because the internet allows businesses to operate nationally and internationally. So, if a business wants to increase its scale it should consider a number of factors. Some are identified in the diagram below.

Factors influencing scale

  • Airlines
  • Hotel groups
  • Entertainment & attractions
  • Food and beverage outlets
